Early birthday surprises

Grumpy had told me to pack a black dress cos we'd be eating somewhere special the night before my birthday.

I spent the afternoon being pampered in the Bellagio spa - their indian head massage and egyptian gold treatment were to die for :D. As soon as I got back I was ordered to get ready for dinner at the Top Of The World restarant at the Stratosphere.

So I glammed myself up and off we went to the Stratosphere. We were a couple of hours early, so we coiffed cocktails as we watched the sky get dark and the lights of Vegas start to sparkle. Gorgeous.

We're sitting there relaxing when someone taps me on my shoulder. I thought it must be the waitress, but when I turn around there's my sister, my mum and my dad! I leapt about 5 foot off the seat and my eyes started leaking with the surprise of it all.

As I composed myself more chairs were gathered and more cocktails ordered, and we were soon called to our table. The place is amazing - the restaurant floor rotates through 360 degrees every hour and 20 minutes. You can literally see every part of Vegas twinkling past you as you eat.

The food was wonderful - it's been a good 4 hours since we finished dinner and I'm still stuffed.

We followed the meal with a trip to the observation deck. Amazing sights to be seen from every angle up there. Unfortunately we managed to lose Dad somewhere along the way. Hannah's jetlag was catching up with her, so Mum took her back to the hotel while G and I stayed to look for Dad. No sign anywhere. No response to our page.

Finally we decided to go look for his hire car. No sign of that anywhere either. After about an hour and a half we finally got a call saying he was back at their hotel. Phew.

We grabbed a taxi and flew back to the Bellagio. Unfortunately when we got out, G discovered that he'd lost the door card for our room. I'd left mine inside, so we had to be escorted back to the room by security (me minus my shoes cos they were really not designed for walking in). We made it back at 11.57pm. 3 mins till the start of my 30th birthday and I have sore feet :(. Never mind.

I have another treat tomorrow, but I don't know what yet. We're meeting the others at 11.15am here, so I'd better get my birthday bum into bed. I just hope there isn't too much walking tomorrow - I don't think my poor feet can take it!!!

But what an amazing start to a brilliant birthday!!!!

(I really am never ever believeing a word Grumpy says ever again though!!!)

Hello Clairey,

This is your Aunty Gilly sending you a birthday blog. Taken me a while to figure out how to do it, I'm a bit of a technophobe when it comes to this sort of thing.

Anyway Claire, we want to wish you a very happy 30th birthday, thats me, John, Adam, Chloe, Jodi and not forgetting Nanny!!.

Your blogs have been very interesting. Today I rang Nanny and read them to her, she really enjoyed them. Keep them coming!!

Anyway have a wonderful birthday, with all our love!!

Does't seem like five minutes ago that you were five and asking to come down the 'pug' with John and I.

Shhhhhh!!! The whole world can read this and most of them don't know about the 'pug'!!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes - this holiday has been so much more than I could ever have imagined. I've also discovered just how devious everyone is!!!! I did think they might have nanny on a mule in the bottom of the Grand Canyon at one point!!!

I'll come and visit soon - just let me recover and I'll be right there!

Lots of love to you all

Clairy xxxx
