Okay Mum, you have to move here. Seriously. If you can bear the fact that there are about a million golfers then a house in Pebble Beach's 17 Mile Drive is the place for you. It's faaaaaaaaaabulous!!!! We even saw an Evo there (we were too busy photographing the waves crashing over the rocks to capture it though). We followed the coast road for about 109 miles on Highway 1 - single carriageway, VERY VERY wiggly and uppy and downy around the mountains with the ocean a short distance away on the right hand side. Breathtaking. We tried to video it, but not sure yet how it turned out. Could be a hell of a lot of dashboard. We'll let you know when we've watched the 3 hours of video!!! That 100ish miles took us 5 hours (with stops)!!!! But it was soooooooooooo worth it. It took us through the dense forests of Big Sur, and a short break to see the 80ft McWay Falls. Was worried when we couldn't make the $8 parking charge out of the change we had (was a 'stick the money in an envelope' jobby) but a nice biker couple from San Francisco bailed us out with 60 cents even though he promised us the warden had just left. I didn't fancy an interpol transatlantic investigation for the sake of 60 cents! Then back on the road, which became even more wiggly and windy. (Didn't get above about 25 miles an hour and some bends had to be taken at half that). The sun set magnificently as we wound our way down along the coast, and we reached our hotel a short time later. The room faces the ocean, which I can hear now gently crashing against the shore. There's even a wood-burning stove in the room!!! Gonna order breakfast, and sit and watch the ocean whilst eating it. Then we're off for a 40 mile (2 hour) journey to a winery for lunch, a tour and tastings......... I'm a very happy girly!!!!
