Orange mobile contract

I keep getting phone calls from some company or companies trying to get me to take a new Orange contract and get a new phone. They all seem to have the same script to follow and don't seem to know anything about me other than my mobile number. The first question is either when does your contract expire or what mobile do you have. I'm getting fed up with it now as I've been called at least 30 times and no amount of asking to get removed from their list makes any difference. One agent told me that I had to speak to Orange to stop the calls. I spoke to Orange and was told that they are finding out my information by doing a credit check on me. What? Why are random people allowed to do credit checks on me. And how do they have the information to do a credit check yet don't seem to know my name? Sounds like a heap of stinky BS to me Orange. I asked if they could do something to trace the calls as they were becoming a bit of a nuisance to be told "Only if they are a nuisance" - what did I just say? So, after getting called twice this week I'm keeping a log here.

me: "How did you get my number"
her: "It's in a dialler"
me: "Ok, but how did your company get my number"
her: "It's a dialler that dials numbers"
me: "Is it your company's dialler or someone else's?"
her: "Its ours"
me: "Please remove my number from your dialler then"
her: "I'll try to do that"
26/09/2006 16:29 07875730293 Northeast Radio Paging in Glasgow Talked to a guy called Ahmed (i think) who said the data was from either Experian or Data Locator but couldn't say which and that I would have to register with the telephone preference service. They are in the list of subscribers to the TPS list found at http://corporate.mpsonline.org.uk/tpsc/html/Subscribers.asp.

I'm more bothered about where the data is coming from and why all these dealers are taking a similar approach to trying to get me to renew.



Update 24/09/2006. I've not heard anything now for nearly a month. Hopefully that last conversation managed to put a stop to the pestering.

Yep, I spoke too soon - another call today 26/09/2006.
